Following a two-year decline, Turkey's production of unmanufactured tobacco and refuse rebounded in 2020. The country produced 79 081 tonnes, marking a significant 15.9% increase compared to the previous year. Over the 2017-2020 period, however, overall production decreased by 15.6%, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of -5.5%. The lowest production level was recorded in 2019 at 68 224 tonnes, while the sharpest decline occurred in 2018, when output fell by 19.6%.

After two consecutive years of contraction, Turkey's production value for unmanufactured tobacco and refuse showed growth in 2020. The output was valued at 438.6 million US dollars, representing a 14.3% rise from 2019. Across the 2017-2020 timeframe, production value declined by 34.5%, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of -13.2%. The lowest value was observed in 2019 at 383.7 million US dollars, and the most substantial drop took place in 2018, with a 29.1% decrease.

In 2020, Turkey exported 48 243 tonnes of unmanufactured tobacco and refuse, a 3.4% increase from 2019. The lowest export volume was recorded in 2019 at 46 665 tonnes, while the peak occurred in 2018 with 60 827 tonnes. The most significant decline happened in 2019, falling by 23.3%, whereas the largest increase was in 2018, rising by 24.4%.

From 2017 to 2020, the United States, Belgium, and Indonesia were the top destinations for Turkey's unmanufactured tobacco and refuse exports by volume. The United States accounted for 30.7% of exports, Belgium for 17.9%, and Indonesia for 8.2%. Together, these three countries represented 56.8% of Turkey's total export volume during this period.

From 2017 to 2020, Brazil, Mozambique, and India were consistently the top sources for Turkey's imports of unmanufactured tobacco and refuse by volume. Brazil supplied 31.2% of imports, Mozambique 10.6%, and India 10.1%. Together, these three countries made up 51.9% of Turkey's total import volume during this period.
