Earlier Report Observations

The Turkish market for unmanufactured tobacco and refuse expanded from 95 502 metric tons in 2018 to 124 667 metric tons in 2020. This growth occurred under the sustained influence of state-owned companies on the market. The COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 introduced global supply chain and logistics disruptions, which, coupled with shifts in consumer behavior, supported continued market expansion.

A sharp contraction followed in 2021, with market volume dropping to 94 224 metric tons.

The market rebounded in 2022, reaching 121 085 metric tons, partly driven by global supply chain challenges and price fluctuations that affected availability and costs. By 2023, volume stabilized at 119 661 metric tons.
