Between 2018 and 2020, the ASEAN turkey meat and offal market volume expanded significantly from 5.2 thousand tons to 8.7 thousand tons, fueled by a sharp increase in imports. After a contraction to 5.7 thousand tons in 2022, the market recovered to 7.1 thousand tons in 2023.

Domestic production remained stable at around 1.8 thousand tons per year, making import movements the primary driver of market size changes. Exports declined after 2018 before a notable rise in 2023.

By 2024, consumer trends favored ready-to-cook and antibiotic-free turkey products, with frozen turkey meat gaining over 36% market share. The launch of clean-label lines by major players and expanded distribution through retail partnerships supported growth in value-added segments, which represented more than 42% of total consumption.

In 2019, ASEAN produced 1,831 tonnes of turkey meat and offal, marking the highest output during the period. This represented a modest 0.4% increase from the previous year. Production then dipped slightly to 1,826 tonnes in 2020, showing only marginal year-on-year fluctuation. The lowest production level was recorded in 2018 at 1,824 tonnes.

Turkey meat and offal production in ASEAN has been declining for three consecutive years. In 2020, the output was valued at 3,011 thousand US dollars, which is 13.3% lower than in 2019. Looking at the broader trend from 2017 to 2020, production fell by 40.3%, translating to an annualized decline rate of 15.8%.

Export volumes of turkey meat and offal from ASEAN showed considerable volatility over the observed period. The lowest point was in 2017, while exports peaked in 2018 at 715 tonnes, representing a 2.2-fold increase from the trough. In 2020, shipments totaled 669 tonnes, down 3.0% from 2019. The largest annual decline occurred in 2019 at 3.6%, while the most significant increase was in 2018 with a remarkable 124.0% surge.

From 2017 to 2020, China, Hong Kong, and the Maldives formed the core destinations for ASEAN's turkey meat and offal exports in volume terms. China accounted for 34.7% of exports, Hong Kong for 28.3%, and the Maldives for 4.4%. Together, these three markets represented 67.4% of total export flows.

The value of turkey meat and offal exports from ASEAN experienced noticeable fluctuations during this period. Exports reached their lowest point in 2017 and peaked in 2018 at 1,645 thousand US dollars, showing a 1.9-fold increase between these years. In 2020, export value stood at 1,104 thousand US dollars, reflecting a substantial 15.7% decrease from 2019. The largest annual decline was in 2019 at 20.4%, while the most significant increase occurred in 2018 with an 86.4% rise.

Over the 2017-2020 period, imports grew by 46.5%, equivalent to a compound annual growth rate of 13.6%. The lowest import volume was recorded in 2018 at 4,128 tonnes, which represented a 19.8% decline from the previous year. The largest annual increase occurred in 2019 with a 38.8% rise.

From 2017 to 2020, the United States, Canada, and China were the key suppliers of turkey meat and offal to ASEAN in volume terms. The United States accounted for 32.7% of imports, Canada for 26.1%, and China for 7.8%. Together, these three countries represented 66.7% of total import flows.

ASEAN's imports of turkey meat and offal have grown for two consecutive years in value terms. In 2020, imports totaled 15,091 thousand US dollars, indicating a moderate 7.4% gain compared to 2019. Between 2017 and 2020, import value increased by 29.4%, equating to an annualized growth rate of 9.0%. The lowest value was recorded in 2018 at 9,821 thousand US dollars, which represented a 15.8% decline from the previous year. The largest annual increase occurred in 2019 with a 43.1% rise.

Throughout 2017-2020, the United States, Canada, and the United Kingdom played leading roles in ASEAN's turkey meat and offal imports in value terms. The United States accounted for 47.5% of import value, Canada for 12.7%, and the United Kingdom for 10.5%. Together, these three countries represented 70.7% of total import flows.
