Earlier Report Observations

The Russian market for plastic tubes, pipes, hoses and fittings expanded significantly from 666 thousand tonnes in 2018 to 1 074 thousand tonnes in 2022. This growth was primarily driven by the national gas supply and gasification program, which increased demand for polymer pipes. Concurrently, the full commissioning of the ZapSibNeftekhim plant boosted domestic polyethylene supply, while the exit of European fittings manufacturers allowed local producers to capture market share and increase output.

Market growth continued at a slower pace, reaching 1 138 thousand tonnes in 2024. The gasification program remained a key driver, though investments in gas networks began to slow. The market saw consolidation in 2024 when Gazprombank acquired a 25% stake in the Polyplastic Group. By 2025, production volume declined to 978 thousand tonnes, influenced by reduced Gazprom spending on pipeline infrastructure and ongoing supply chain realignment, exemplified by Polyplastic's acquisition of a majority stake in the former Russian subsidiary of Aliaxis in February 2025.
