The triticale market in Slovenia saw initial growth, with its volume increasing from 23 710 t in 2018 to a peak of 27 333 t in 2020. This rise was supported by a consistent increase in domestic production, which reached 28 260 t in the same year. However, the market entered a phase of contraction thereafter, declining to 21 847 t by 2023.

The post-2020 downturn was primarily driven by a sustained fall in production, which dropped by over 6 000 t from its peak. While imports saw a temporary increase in 2021-2022, this was offset by a significant and sustained rise in exports, which more than doubled from pre-2020 levels and continued to draw supply away from the domestic market.

By 2023, the combined effect of lower production and substantial outflows via trade resulted in a market volume that was approximately 8% smaller than its 2018 level, highlighting a shift in the balance between domestic availability and external demand for Slovenian triticale.

Between 2017 and 2020, production increased by 17.6%, which translates to an annualized rate of 5.5%. The highest value was recorded in 2019 at 5 476 thousand US dollars, with the largest increase of 14.6% also occurring that year.
