Earlier Report Observations

The Algerian quince market expanded initially due to Agrana Fruit's acquisition of a 49% stake in ELAFRUITS, the leading local fruit processor, which increased production capacity for food solutions. Simultaneous development of wholesale fruit and vegetable markets across the country improved distribution networks. These investments contributed to a rise in production to 12 746 tons in 2019. However, in 2020, a climbing black-market euro exchange rate and widespread cash circulation outside the banking system raised costs and weakened local demand, leading to a drop in output to 11 748 tons.

Production continued to decline over the next two years, falling to 7 670 tons in 2022. The market rebounded sharply in 2023, with production jumping to 10 887 tons.
