Earlier Report Observations

Between 2018 and 2024, the market volume for tea in packings ≤3 kg in the Netherlands showed considerable volatility. After peaking at 13,595 tons in 2018, volume fell to 10,218 tons in 2019, partially recovered to 11,946 tons in 2020, and then declined again to 9,053 tons in 2021.

Market volume grew to 9,797 tons in 2022, a rise supported by increasing consumer demand for organic, sustainable, and functional teas, including trends like cold brew and fairtrade. A sharp contraction followed in 2023, with volume dropping to 6,643 tons, largely due to global oversupply and price pressure that impacted major industry participants such as Acomo's tea division. Recovery began in 2024 as volume reached 7,116 tons, driven by sustained consumer interest in convenience, health-oriented infusions, and innovations in premium and artistic tea presentations.

In value terms, the market's trajectory reflected a shift toward higher-value products. After fluctuating between 104.2 and 93.5 million USD from 2019 to 2023, the market value rose significantly to 122.4 million USD in 2024, aligning with the growing consumer preference for premium and single-origin teas.
