Earlier Report Observations

Armenia's market for sugar preserved vegetables, fruit and nuts began the period at 569 tons in 2018, supported by the state agricultural development strategy for 2020-2030 which aimed to boost self-sufficiency and industry competitiveness. The market then contracted to 389 tons in 2019 and further to 359 tons in 2020. This decline coincided with reported stagnation of demand in the key Russian market, which reduced import activity, and the introduction of new EAEU food safety standards and technical regulations that increased compliance requirements for producers.

From 2021, the market entered a recovery phase, reaching 426 tons by 2023. This turnaround was influenced by the rollout of mandatory traceability and labeling rules within the EAEU, which initially constrained export flows and increased domestic product availability. State support for the agro-industrial sector continued to underpin production volumes, even as export opportunities were later affected by a noted deterioration in trade relations with Russia, a primary trading partner.

In 2024, export volumes saw a significant increase to 317 tons, reflecting peak seasonal processing activity and ongoing industry adjustments to updated EAEU technical regulations, including new standards for plant-based products. Processing enterprises were actively sourcing raw materials directly from farmers, enhancing supply chain efficiency.
