The Czech market for chemically pure sucrose in solid form showed consistent expansion from 2018 to 2023, with total market volume growing from 372.5 thousand tonnes to 432.2 thousand tonnes. This represented an overall increase of 16%, indicating sustained demand within the country over the period.

Growth was most pronounced in 2021, when the market size rose by 5.9% to 417.0 thousand tonnes. The following years saw more moderate gains, with increases of 1.6% in 2022 and 2.1% in 2023, suggesting a stabilization at a higher level of consumption.

This upward trend in market volume occurred alongside shifts in supply. Domestic production experienced volatility, declining in 2019 and 2020 before recovering to 662.4 thousand tonnes by 2023. Simultaneously, import volumes more than doubled from 50.5 thousand tonnes in 2018 to 86.7 thousand tonnes in 2023, helping to meet the growing domestic demand.

Sucrose production in solid form in Czechia has declined for the second year in a row. In 2020, the country produced 549.4 thousand tons, marking a modest decrease of 6.4% compared to 2019. Looking at the period from 2017 to 2020, production fell by 9.9%, which translates to an average annual decline of 3.4%. The highest production level was recorded in 2018 at 641.5 thousand tons, with a 5.2% increase that year. The most significant drop occurred in 2019, when production fell by 8.5%.

After two years of decline, the value of sucrose production in solid form in Czechia increased in 2020. Output was valued at 298.5 million US dollars, representing an 8.1% gain compared to 2019. Over the 2017-2020 period, however, production value decreased by 4.2%, with a compound annual growth rate of -1.4%. The lowest value was recorded in 2019 at 276.1 million US dollars, when production saw its largest decline of 6.6%.

From 2017 to 2020, exports decreased by 19.8%, with an average annual decline of 7.1%. The peak export volume was recorded in 2018 at 319.5 thousand tons, which included a 3.8% increase that year. The largest decline occurred in 2019, with exports falling by 14.2%.

Between 2017 and 2020, Austria, Slovakia, and Hungary remained the top buyers of sucrose in solid form from Czechia. Austria accounted for 27.4% of exports in kind, Slovakia for 13.9%, and Hungary for 12.0%. Together, these three countries represented 53.3% of Czechia's total sucrose exports by volume.
