The Finnish starches market, in value terms, followed a path of growth and contraction between 2018 and 2024. From a base of 77 million dollars in 2018, it held steady in 2019 before declining to 73 million dollars in 2020. A strong rebound in 2021 took the market to 88.3 million dollars, and expansion continued to a peak of over 100 million dollars in 2022.

The market's movements were closely tied to import dynamics. Imports more than doubled from 19.5 million dollars in 2018 to 41.9 million dollars in 2022, providing the main impetus for growth. Domestic production also contributed, reaching 62.8 million dollars in 2021, but it later fell to 46.7 million dollars by 2024. Exports remained a minor factor throughout the period.

After the 2022 high, the market contracted for two consecutive years, dropping to 83.6 million dollars in 2023 and 74.7 million dollars in 2024. This brought the market value back near its 2018 level, erasing most of the gains achieved during the growth phase.
