Sheep and goat meat exports from Africa have risen for the second consecutive year. In 2020, export volumes reached 30 069 tonnes, showing a modest 7.4% gain compared to the previous year. Over the 2017-2020 period, exports grew by 2.5%, with an average annual growth rate of 0.8%. The lowest volume was recorded in 2018 at 27 812 tonnes, which also saw the largest decline of 5.2%.

From 2017 to 2020, the United Arab Emirates (52.6% of export volumes), Saudi Arabia (21.6%), and Oman (4.3%) dominated Africa's sheep and goat meat export structure. Together, these three countries accounted for 78.5% of total export flows.
