Following two consecutive years of decline, pig offal exports from Africa rebounded in 2020. Exports totaled 21.6 thousand tonnes, reflecting a 19.5% increase from the previous year. Over the 2017-2020 period, exports grew by 9.3%, equivalent to an annualized growth rate of 3.0%. The lowest export volume was recorded in 2019 at 18.1 thousand tonnes, which also saw the largest decline of 4.4%.

From 2017 to 2020, the main destinations for African pig offal exports were France, Spain, and Italy, accounting for 28.4%, 12.5%, and 12.4% of total export volume, respectively. Together, these three countries comprised 53.2% of all exports in kind.

The lowest export value was recorded in 2018 at 96.1 million US dollars, which also experienced the largest decline of 22.3%. The most significant increase occurred in 2019, with a 23.3% growth.

During the 2017-2020 period, France, Spain, and the Netherlands were the leading markets for African pig offal exports in value terms, accounting for 45.5%, 12.7%, and 10.6% of total export value, respectively. Collectively, these three countries represented 68.8% of all export flows.

The highest import volume was recorded in 2019 at 169.6 thousand tonnes, which also saw the largest increase of 38.5%.
