The sheep and goat meat market in Jamaica experienced a pronounced contraction from 2018 to 2021, with total volume falling by approximately 30% from 3 960 t to 2 782 t. This decline was mirrored by a drop in imports, which form the bulk of supply, from 2 693 t to 1 812 t over the same period. Domestic production also gradually decreased from 1 268 t to 972 t.

A sharp reversal occurred in 2022 and 2023, with market volume rebounding by 41% to reach 3 926 t. This recovery was led by a surge in imports, which climbed to 2 950 t in 2023, while domestic output stabilized around 990 t. By 2023, the market had nearly returned to its pre-contraction size, completing a V-shaped trajectory over the six-year span.
