However, the full-scale war in 2022 led to port blockades and severe logistical constraints, causing production to drop and pushing market volume down to 49.1 t.

A recovery followed in 2023, with the market reaching 76.7 t, aided by stable oilseed production and investment inflows into the sector. Regulatory changes in 2024, including new export duties and the removal of licensing for some oil exports, continued to shape trade dynamics.

Over the four-year span from 2017 to 2020, overall production grew by 16.5%, with an average annual growth rate of 5.2%. The most substantial year-on-year increase occurred in 2019, when production surged by 33.7%.

In 2020, the output was valued at 398.1 thousand US dollars, showing a modest increase of 2.2% compared to 2019. From 2017 to 2020, the value of production rose by 52.2%, translating to an average annual growth rate of 15.0%.

In 2020, Ukraine exported 25 078 kg of sesame oil and fractions, which represents a 26.8% increase from the previous year. Over the period from 2017 to 2020, exports grew by 80.2%, with an average annual growth rate of 21.7%. The largest year-on-year decline occurred in 2019, when exports fell by 5.7%, while the most significant increase was recorded in 2018, with a 50.7% rise.

From 2017 to 2020, Lithuania, Russia, and Kazakhstan were the primary destinations for Ukraine's sesame oil and fractions exports in terms of volume. Lithuania accounted for 37.5% of exports, Russia for 17.0%, and Kazakhstan for 10.4%. Together, these three countries represented 64.9% of Ukraine's total export flows in kind during this period.
