Earlier Report Observations

Ukraine's linseed oil market began the period with production of 6 500 t and domestic consumption of 3 119 t in 2018, supported by several large processors and growing consumer interest in healthy food products. From 2019 to 2021, both production and total market volume contracted significantly, with production falling to 2 200 t and the market size dropping to 1 637 t.

The market faced logistical challenges and rising energy costs in 2022, which impacted export volumes. However, domestic market volume grew to 2 068 t that year. A recovery in production to 2 500 t occurred in 2023, supported by the diversification of sown areas, investments from agro-holdings, and increased demand for certified organic linseed oil.

By 2024, export volumes of linseed oil rose sharply to 840 t. This expansion was aided by new legislation restricting the use of palm oil in food products, which boosted demand for natural alternatives like linseed oil, alongside continued investment in oilseed processing capacity and a broader range of flax-based niche products.
