Earlier Report Observations

The market for beef, sheep, and goat fats in Ukraine grew from 30 086 t in 2018 to a peak of 35 897 t in 2020, supported by rising domestic production. This upward trend was interrupted in 2021 and 2022, with the market size contracting to 31 550 t.

In August 2022, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine introduced a state budget support program, providing special subsidies to farms for maintaining cattle, goats, and sheep. These direct payments to livestock producers aimed to stabilize the raw material base for animal fat production.

Market volume recovered to 33 329 t in 2023, aided by increased demand from the animal feed industry, which uses protein derived from meat and animal by-products, including fats, in the manufacture of dry pet food.
