A significant driver emerged in 2020 as the ongoing extension of Poland's water and sewage network increased demand for plastic pipes, pushing market volume above 53 000 t. Although the COVID-19 pandemic caused a temporary dip in plastics production in early 2021, recovery in the latter half of the year, coupled with persistent infrastructure needs, allowed the market to grow further.

The market dynamics shifted sharply in 2022 when new European packaging waste regulations (PPWR) were introduced, mandating recycled content and deposit systems. These regulatory changes, alongside the implementation of extended producer responsibility, increased costs and uncertainty, contributing to a significant drop in production and a market volume decline to 47 271 t. In 2023, production of key plastics, including polypropylene, fell by nearly 18% due to continued legislative and environmental pressures, keeping the market volume depressed near 47 000 t. However, major strategic investments, such as Grupa Azoty's new production facility in Police slated for 2024, and ongoing technological development by domestic players like Plastbor and Prawtech, provided a foundation for a modest market recovery to 48 087 t in 2024.

The maximum volume was recorded in 2018 at 33 330 tonnes, with the largest increase also occurring in that year at 13.7%.

From 2017 to 2020, the partner landscape for exports in kind was diverse. Sweden accounted for 17.3% of exports in kind, Ukraine for 12.0%, and Czechia for 8.5%, together forming only 37.8% of total flows. A substantial 62.2% was supplied to many other countries.
