The Polish market for plastic reservoirs, tanks, vats and similar containers with capacity over 300 litres showed strong growth in physical volume from 2018 to 2021, rising from 9.4 thousand tonnes to 15.9 thousand tonnes. In value terms, the market increased steadily from $37.2 million to $49.1 million over the same four-year period.

This expansion was underpinned by a rapid rise in domestic production, which grew from 15.7 thousand tonnes to 26.5 thousand tonnes. Imports also increased, contributing to market supply, while exports grew substantially from 8.5 thousand tonnes to 14.2 thousand tonnes, absorbing a significant portion of the locally manufactured output.

In the following years, trade flows adjusted. Import volumes peaked at 4.0 thousand tonnes in 2022 before declining to 3.3 thousand tonnes in 2024. Export volumes gradually decreased from their 2021 high of 14.2 thousand tonnes to 11.4 thousand tonnes in 2024.

In 2020, output was valued at 83 441 thousand US dollars, marking a moderate increase of 5.7% compared to 2019. Between 2017 and 2020, production grew by 38.1%, which translates to an annualized growth rate of 11.4%.

Cross-border shipments of plastic reservoirs, tanks, vats and similar containers with a capacity exceeding 300 litres from Poland have increased for the third consecutive year. In 2020, Poland exported 11 481 tonnes of these products, showing a strong year-on-year increase of 23.0%. Between 2017 and 2020, exports grew by 41.9%, equating to an annualized growth rate of 12.4%.

From 2017 to 2020, Germany (32.5% of exports in kind), France (9.0%), and Czechia (8.2%) were significant buyers of plastic reservoirs, tanks, vats and similar containers with a capacity exceeding 300 litres from Poland. However, their combined share accounted for only 49.6% of total exports in kind, with the remaining 50.4% distributed among numerous other trading partners.

In 2020, export volume reached 52 034 thousand US dollars, which is 4.3% higher than in 2019. Over the period from 2017 to 2020, exports increased by 43.2%, with a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 12.7%.

Between 2017 and 2020, imports grew by 123.4%, equating to an annualized growth rate of 30.7%.
