Thailand's raw silk market volume grew by 16% in 2019, reaching 700 t, but this proved to be a high point before a multi-year contraction. From 2020 to 2023, the market size fell consistently, dropping to 329 t by the end of the period—a 53% reduction from the 2019 peak.

The decline was almost entirely attributable to a collapse in domestic production, which more than halved from 700 t in 2019 to 291 t in 2023. With imports and exports remaining marginal in most years, the shrinking output directly translated into a smaller market volume.
