Earlier Report Observations

The market volume for fresh quinces in Europe grew consistently from 39 718 t in 2018 to 56 128 t in 2023. A significant surge of 18% occurred in 2020, lifting the market to 47 221 t, followed by steady annual increases. This expansion was underpinned by rising domestic production, which climbed from 35 344 t in 2019 to 43 943 t in 2023, and by shifting trade patterns that increased net availability.

Imports of quinces rose notably in 2020 and 2021, exceeding 22 000 t, while exports fell sharply from 17 082 t in 2018 to a low of 8 328 t in 2022. The combined effect of higher production and lower exports significantly boosted the volume of quinces remaining for domestic consumption, supporting the overall market growth through the period.

For 2024, reported market trends indicate that global supply chain disruptions and increased logistics costs are affecting import volumes, which fell to 18 429 t. Concurrently, enduring consumer preferences for healthier, sustainable, and organic fresh produce continue to influence the broader market environment in Europe.
