Earlier Report Observations

The prepared sweetcorn market in the Americas began the period with a volume of 540 thousand tons in 2018, supported by the United States' leadership in sweet corn seed production and a growing demand for processed canned and frozen products. However, market volume contracted over the following three years, falling to 467 thousand tons by 2021. This decline was primarily driven by supply chain disruptions caused by the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020, which affected the availability of processed sweetcorn, and by regional frosts in key producing states in 2021 that constrained supply.

From 2022, the market stabilized and began to recover. The launch of new sweet corn seed varieties with higher yield and disease resistance by leading companies helped reverse the downward trend, leading to a modest increase in volume to 470 thousand tons in 2022. Continued significant investments in seed technologies to improve quality and sustainability further supported growth, with the market volume reaching 486 thousand tons in 2023. Into 2024, factors such as increasing consumer preference for products with fewer additives and sustainable packaging, along with regulatory pushes for modern agriculture, continued to influence the market.
