Earlier Report Observations

The market for poultry meat and offal in Timor-Leste expanded from 12 223 t in 2018 to 22 900 t in 2022, driven by a consistent increase in imports which form the bulk of supply. After peaking in 2022, the market volume softened to 20 442 t in 2023.

In 2024, poultry meat imports fell sharply to 10 463 t. This decline was primarily caused by Brazil's suspension of exports to Timor-Leste following outbreaks of Newcastle disease. The ban specifically affected fresh, chilled, or frozen poultry meat and related products from within a 50 km radius of infection sites, disrupting a key supply route for the Timorese market.
