Between 2018 and 2020, Russia's poultry meat production remained relatively stable. The absence of import restrictions on genetic materials and premixes in 2018 helped maintain output levels, while ongoing import substitution in animal feed and the emergence of new regional producers in 2019 provided additional support. However, an avian flu outbreak in 2020 reduced bird stocks, leading to a slight decrease in production.

From 2021 onward, the market entered a period of consistent growth. State support through preferential loans for building and modernizing poultry farms, coupled with the development of a domestic feed base, stimulated production expansion starting in 2022. This was further supported by rising domestic consumption, which exceeded 35 kg per capita for the first time that year.

Avian flu outbreaks at several large farms in 3 temporarily restrained production growth, but continued government subsidies and the realization of new investment projects drove further output increases in 2024 and 2025, with production reaching 4.8 million tons by the end of the period.

Following two years of decline, Russia's poultry meat and offal production rebounded. In 2021, the country produced 4 421 K t, marking a 1.0% increase from 2020. Production had reached its lowest point in 2020 at 4 379 K t, after experiencing the steepest decline of 1.3% in 2019.

Russia's poultry meat and offal exports grew for the third year in a row. In 2021, exports totaled 304.6 K t, up 3.3% from the previous year. From 2018 to 2021, exports surged by 65.7%, translating to an average annual growth rate of 18.3%.

From 2018 to 2021, China, Ukraine, and Kazakhstan were the primary destinations for Russia's poultry meat and offal exports in volume terms. China accounted for 33.5% of exports, Ukraine for 16.1%, and Kazakhstan for 14.4%, together making up 63.9% of the total export volume.

Exports in value, M $ US

Russia's poultry meat and offal exports in value terms expanded for the third consecutive year. In 2021, exports reached 537.6 M $ US, a sharp 25.8% rise from 2020. Over the 2018-2021 period, export value jumped by 181.9%, with a compound annual growth rate of 41.3%.

During 2018-2021, China, Ukraine, and Kazakhstan remained the key markets for Russia's poultry meat and offal exports in value terms. China held a 44.3% share, Ukraine 12.1%, and Kazakhstan 11.2%, collectively representing 67.6% of total export value.

Russia imported about 411.6 M $ US of poultry meat and offal in 2021, a 28.6% year-over-year increase. From 2018 to 2021, import value rose by 13.5%, with an average annual rate of 4.3%. The lowest value was recorded in 2020 at 320.0 M $ US, following a significant decline of 16.7% that year.

Over the 2018-2021 period, Belarus and Brazil were the main sources for Russia's poultry meat and offal imports in value terms, jointly capturing 90.5% of total import value. The remaining share was distributed among other markets.
