In 2021, market volume jumped to 77 000 t driven by a surge in imports to 49 000 t, reflecting the market's continued import dependency to meet local needs. By 2022, the government began considering measures to stimulate local production, including planned investments in poultry complexes, which coincided with a reduction in imports to 39 000 t and a market volume of 68 000 t.

The market contracted sharply in 2023 to 43 000 t as imports fell to 14 000 t. That same year, the House of Representatives approved the construction of a $28 million integrated poultry complex, a significant investment aimed at raising the local production share from its low base. In 2024, stricter government regulations on poultry sales, campaigns to improve animal health, and ongoing support for local producers were implemented, while imports rebounded to 60 000 t, indicating persistent import reliance despite development efforts.
