Earlier Report Observations

The market volume for potato flour, flakes, granules and pellets in Northern Africa more than halved between 2018 and 2023, falling from 6 808 t to 3 457 t. The decline was most pronounced from 2019 to 2021, where the market contracted by over 2 000 t within two years.

This sharp contraction was primarily driven by a steep drop in imports, which fell from 5 684 t in 2018 to 2 663 t in 2023. Domestic production also showed significant volatility, peaking at 2 364 t in 2019 before receding to 1 502 t by the end of the period, failing to offset the reduction in foreign supply.

A temporary reversal occurred in 2022, with the market volume growing to 4 328 t on the back of a one-year surge in imports. However, this recovery was short-lived, and the market resumed its downward trajectory in 2023, shrinking by 20% to 3 457 t.
