The market grew to 18,899 t in 2019, dipped slightly in 2020, then contracted sharply to 15,924 t in 2021 before rebounding strongly to 19,935 t in 2022 and advancing further in 2023.

A key regulatory change occurred in March 2022 when a decree made origin labeling mandatory for pork served in out-of-home catering. This increased transparency for consumers, likely bolstering confidence and demand, which aligned with the market's recovery that year. In 2024, the Ministry of Agriculture received the first draft of a national strategy to develop swine farming, underscoring policy support for the sector's future.
