Industrial consolidation, led by major players like Sedima with its own feed mill, provided scale and structure to the sector. A pivotal boost occurred in 2022 when a sharp 20-25% price increase for red meat caused many consumers to switch to more affordable poultry, directly accelerating market growth that year. Despite these gains, the sector remained vulnerable due to its reliance on imported feed inputs and a distribution network where informal channels still accounted for half the market.

The market's growth rate stabilized in 2023, with volume increasing by just 1.4%. During this period, industry efforts focused on upgrading cold storage, abattoir standards, and refrigerated transport to address logistical weaknesses. The competitive environment also began evolving as local producers anticipated the potential entry of new international fast-food chains, such as KFC, which could reshape the market dynamics.
