Earlier Report Observations
Between 2018 and 2020, the pig offal market in Belarus experienced fluctuations starting with pressure from a declining swine herd, which reduced raw material availability. The market volume dipped to 26,575 t in 2019, influenced by African swine fever outbreaks affecting production. However, in 2020, pork production increased by 5.2%, helping lift the market size back to 27,209 t, supported by ongoing veterinary and sanitary regulations that ensured product safety.
From 2021 to 2022, the market contracted further, falling to 25,593 t. This was driven by a continued decrease in the swine population and a 2022 ban on keeping pigs in private subsidiary plots in certain zones, which constrained supply. The government also introduced price controls on meat and meat products. In 2023, the market recovered to 26,785 t as private investors expanded pig farming and consumer preference shifted towards chilled offal, displacing frozen products on the domestic market.
