This expansion was underpinned by targeted efforts to boost output, the introduction of improved seed varieties, and state support for the agricultural sector.

Following the 2019 contraction, output recovered in 2020 amid national goals to increase production. In subsequent years, the registration of new, higher-yielding varieties such as Syngenta's 'Mucio' in 2021 enhanced crop performance. Government measures, including the facilitation of the Farmer Registration System and investment grants under the IPARD III program in 2022, encouraged planned cultivation area expansion. By 2023, rising consumer demand for fresh vegetables, the proliferation of retail and online sales channels, and increasing market prices provided further incentives for growers, leading to a sharp output increase to 147 thousand tons.
