From 2018 to 2020, the Polish fresh pea market expanded steadily. In 2018, a temporary relaxation of EU fallow land restrictions allowed peas to be grown on set-aside areas without plant protection products, making cultivation more attractive. The registration of new varieties like Ostinato in 2019, with high resistance to lodging and diseases, improved yield quality. By 2020, direct payments under the Common Agricultural Policy and favorable agrotechnical conditions encouraged farmers to increase pea planting area, pushing production up to 54 900 tons and market volume to 48 902 tons.

Market volume dropped to 34 577 tons in 2021, even as production remained substantial at 48 600 tons. During this period, industry sources highlighted growing demand for peas as a raw material for plant-based proteins and meat substitutes. The introduction of pea cultivation subsidies under the CAP 2023-2027 framework and the arrival of winter pea varieties such as FEROE in 2022 laid the groundwork for a recovery, with market volume rising to 37 260 tons that year.

A significant 22% increase in pea sowing area to around 118 thousand hectares in 2023 boosted production to 49 500 tons. Concurrently, rising consumer interest in textured pea proteins as meat alternatives supported domestic consumption, helping market volume reach 40 854 tons. In 2024, the launch of Poland's first winter pea variety opened new possibilities for crop rotation and raw material base expansion.

The lowest production level was recorded in 2018 at 41 730 tonnes, which also saw the largest decline of 19.4%.
