The market for fresh or chilled peas in Thailand reached its highest volume of 10 327 tons in 2019, growing from 9 627 tons in the previous year. This peak was supported by increased domestic production, which rose to 2 973 tons, and higher imports of 7 891 tons.

After 2019, the market entered a sustained decline, falling to 7 667 tons by 2023. The contraction was driven primarily by a significant drop in import volumes, which decreased from 7 891 tons in 2019 to 5 269 tons in 2023. Domestic production remained relatively stable, fluctuating between 2 840 and 3 031 tons during this period, and was insufficient to offset the reduction in imported supply.

Thailand's pea production has increased for the second consecutive year. In 2020, the country produced 3 005 tonnes of peas, marking a modest 1.1% increase compared to the previous year. Looking at the period from 2017 to 2020, overall production decreased by 5%, which translates to an average annual decline of 1.7%. The lowest production level was recorded in 2018 at 2 878 tonnes, which also saw the largest decline of 9.1%. In contrast, the largest increase occurred in 2019 with a 3.3% rise.

The export market for peas from Thailand showed an unstable trend during the analyzed period. Exports reached their lowest point in 2020 at 95 tonnes, which represented an 82.4% decline compared to the previous year. The peak was recorded in 2018 with 811 tonnes, resulting in an 8.6-fold difference between these two years. The largest increase in exports occurred in 2018, rising by 7.1%.

From 2017 to 2020, the main buyers of peas from Thailand in terms of volume were Asia, not elsewhere specified (accounting for 43.1% of exports), Japan (28.6%), and Myanmar (3.5%). Together, these three markets represented 75.2% of Thailand's total pea exports by volume.

Pea exports from Thailand in value terms declined for the second consecutive year. In 2020, exports amounted to 180 thousand US dollars, a significant 65.8% reduction compared to the previous year. Over the period from 2017 to 2020, exports decreased by 82%, averaging an annual decline of 43.5%. The highest value was recorded in 2018 at 1 141 thousand US dollars, which also saw the largest increase of 14.4%.

Between 2017 and 2020, Japan remained the primary buyer of peas from Thailand in value terms, accounting for 62.2% of exports. Asia, not elsewhere specified, followed with 14.7%, and Myanmar with 4.1%. Collectively, these three markets formed 81.0% of Thailand's total pea export value.

After two years of growth, Thailand's pea imports by volume declined. In 2020, imports totaled 6 724 tonnes, showing a substantial 14.8% decrease compared to 2019. Over the 2017-2020 period, imports increased by 4%, with a compound annual growth rate of 1.3%. The highest volume was recorded in 2019 at 7 891 tonnes, while the largest increase occurred in 2018 with a 17.0% rise.
