Earlier Report Observations

The market volume of fresh peas in Serbia declined from 29.3 thousand tons in 2018 to 19.7 thousand tons in 2023. The initial high volume in 2018 was supported by increased export quotas under the free trade agreement with Turkey, allowing duty-free shipments, and by global demand for frozen ready meals which stimulated green pea production.

After a temporary recovery to 27.6 thousand tons in 2020, the market resumed its downward trend. Pea cultivation remained largely in the hands of state-owned and large agricultural enterprises, which control about 60% of arable land, and the 2023 agricultural census was launched to gather more precise agricultural data.
