From 2018 to 2020, the Moroccan pear market volume showed notable fluctuations. In 2018, the market stood at 71 899 t, supported by local cultivation covering approximately 4 000 hectares with an annual output around 40 000 t and the introduction of a new pear variety with enhanced shelf life. The market expanded to 77 467 t in 2019, partly due to increased availability from the growing production of the Xenia pear variety in Europe, which bolstered import volumes. However, in 2020, the market contracted to 67 520 t as spring frosts in major European producing countries like France, Italy, the Netherlands, and Germany significantly reduced pear output, leading to a drop in imports to Morocco.

The period from 2021 to 2022 saw a strong recovery and growth. Market volume jumped to 82 792 t in 2021, driven largely by a sharp increase in domestic production to 46 626 t. This occurred while Morocco had become a major destination for Portuguese pear exports, absorbing 20% of Portugal's total shipments, but severe climate-related production declines in Portugal pressured import supply. In 2022, the market grew further to 93 498 t, with imports reaching 48 116 t despite reports of a difficult European season marked by unfavorable weather and lower production, suggesting adjusted supply chains.

In 2023, the market volume fell sharply to 62 470 t, with both domestic production and imports declining substantially compared to the previous year.

The most significant drop occurred in 2019 with a 3.4% decrease, while the largest increase was in 2018 with a 3.5% rise.

In 2020, pear exports from Morocco totaled 204 tonnes, representing a sharp 55.9% decline compared to 2019. The highest export volume was recorded in 2019 at 462 tonnes, which also saw the largest increase of 95.4%.

After two years of growth, Morocco's pear imports declined. In 2020, import volumes totaled 34 641 tonnes, representing a substantial 21.1% decrease from the previous year. Between 2017 and 2020, imports increased by 12.1%, equivalent to an average annual growth rate of 3.9%. The highest import volume was recorded in 2019 at 43 909 tonnes. The largest increase occurred in 2018 with a 19.6% rise.
