Earlier Report Observations

Morocco's grape market volume reached 460.3 thousand tonnes in 2019, supported by the Plan Maroc Vert policy which prioritized viticulture in key regions like Casablanca-Settat. The launch of a new grape packaging unit in early 2018, with an investment of 4.5 million dirhams, helped enhance handling capacity. European demand for seedless varieties also grew, influencing planting choices. However, in 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic reduced purchasing power for luxury items like grapes, while drought and an unusually hot spring altered harvest schedules, contributing to a market drop to 402.7 thousand tonnes. Recovery followed in 2021, with volume rising to 423.0 thousand tonnes as production increased by 6.5% compared to 2018, driven by companies like Delassus focusing on protected varieties for European export.

The market contracted sharply in 2022, falling to 324.9 thousand tonnes. Although proximity to Europe continued to offer logistical advantages for freshness, no specific drivers explained this significant reduction in volume. By 2023, the market stabilized at 319.7 thousand tonnes, showing only a minor decline from the previous year.
