Earlier Report Observations

The Swiss market for peaches and nectarines expanded from 28 665 т in 2018 to 31 621 т in 2019. This growth was partly supported by increased plantings in France by Sarl Racamier, which from 2018 raised export volumes to Switzerland, boosting imports.

Market volume contracted to 28 244 т by 2021, then saw a modest recovery to 28 503 т in 2022. During this period, Swiss demand for peaches and nectarines was observed to be weak compared to other European markets, limiting price momentum and market growth. Additionally, from July 2022, changes to incentive taxes on conventional young tree material may have influenced long-term production decisions.

In 2023, the market grew to 29 397 т. Looking ahead, the total area for fruit cultivation in Switzerland, including peaches and nectarines, is planned to increase slightly in 2024, while indicative prices for fruit production and trade continue to be set by industry bodies.
