Earlier Report Observations

The Swiss market for fresh apples, pears and quinces experienced significant volume fluctuations between 2018 and 2021. It began at 391.5 thousand tons in 2018, then dropped sharply to 244.8 thousand tons the following year. A partial recovery to 300.8 thousand tons occurred in 2020, before another decline to 225.7 thousand tons in 2021.

In 2022, market volume increased to 244.6 thousand tons, supported by a larger regional fruit harvest after a hot spring and summer improved the availability of apples and pears. The following year, volume contracted to 211.2 thousand tons as a lower supply of pome fruit led to tighter market conditions and more pronounced price increases for varieties such as Golden Delicious.
