Earlier Report Observations

After a slight contraction to 10 041 tonnes in 2019, the pastry market in Sri Lanka expanded to 12 446 tonnes in 2020. This growth was supported by the industry's adaptation to COVID-19 restrictions, including a shift to delivery-based platforms, the introduction of diverse online payment options, and the opening of new food service establishments such as Pizza Factory in Colombo, which were prepared to operate under safety regulations.

Market volume then decreased to 11 180 tonnes in 2021, a period marked by continued emphasis on delivery services and digital marketing targeting home-bound consumers. Following a further decline to 8 420 tonnes in 2022, the market partially recovered to 9 253 tonnes in 2023.
