The orange market in Jordan experienced fluctuating volumes between 2018 and 2023, starting at 74 004 t and reaching 80 397 t by the end of the period. After a peak of 78 916 t in 2019, the market contracted sharply to 59 708 t in 2020 before recovering and stabilizing around 67 700 t in 2021-2022. The most notable expansion occurred in 2023, when market volume jumped to 80 397 t, fueled by a surge in domestic production to 70 581 t.

The 2023 production increase coincided with improved economic conditions, including lower inflation at 2.1% and a stronger labor market, which supported consumer demand. Additionally, the implementation of a tracking system to monitor agricultural production likely enhanced yield management and output. At the same time, the widespread presence of high-priced Egyptian oranges in the Jordanian market affected import patterns, with imports falling to 11 089 t as local production filled more of the demand.

In 2024, orange imports rebounded to 23 832 t, a shift that may be linked to the entry of new players indicated by a rise in registered companies with increased capital. The announcement of the Egyptian orange export season starting December 1, 2024, also prepared the market for renewed availability of imported oranges, reflecting ongoing cross-border trade dynamics.

After two consecutive years of growth, orange production in Jordan experienced a decline. In 2019, production reached its peak at 48,721 tons. However, by 2020, output had fallen to 41,990 tons, representing a decrease of 13.8% compared to the previous year. The most significant year-on-year increase occurred in 2018, when production grew by 9.3%.

The export market for oranges from Jordan showed considerable volatility during the observed period. In 2019, export volumes hit their lowest point at 454 tons, while they peaked in 2018 at 993 tons, creating a 2.2-fold difference between these years. The most dramatic decline occurred in 2019, with a drop of 54.3%, while the largest increase was recorded in 2018 at 108.7%. In 2020, exports remained stable at 455 tons, showing no change from the previous year.

From 2017 to 2020, Jordan's orange exports were concentrated in three key markets. Oman was the largest destination, accounting for 50.6% of export volumes, followed by Saudi Arabia at 12.5% and the United Arab Emirates at 9.1%. Together, these three countries represented 72.1% of Jordan's total orange exports during this period.

The value of Jordan's orange exports showed irregular patterns, indicating a volatile market. In 2019, export value reached its lowest point at $374,000 US. The following year, in 2020, it surged to $1,553,000 US, representing a 315.5% increase compared to 2019 and creating a 4.2-fold fluctuation between the two years. The most significant decline occurred in 2019, with a drop of 60.0%.

Between 2017 and 2020, Jordan's orange exports by value were primarily directed to three countries. Oman led with 34.4% of export value, followed by Iraq at 19.4% and Kuwait at 13.8%. Collectively, these three markets accounted for 67.6% of the total export value of oranges from Jordan during this four-year period.

Following two years of growth, Jordan's imports of oranges declined. In 2019, imports reached their highest level at 30,648 tons. However, by 2020, they had fallen to 18,173 tons, representing a decrease of 40.7% compared to the previous year. Over the entire 2017-2020 period, imports decreased by 33.6%, equivalent to an annualized decline of 12.7%. The largest year-on-year increase occurred in 2018, with growth of 9.4%.

From 2017 to 2020, Jordan's orange imports were overwhelmingly dominated by a single source. Egypt supplied 92.4% of all oranges imported by Jordan during this period.
