From 2018 to 2020, the market volume for oil seeds and oleaginous fruits in Polynesia contracted from 276.7 tons to 234.1 tons. This decline was primarily driven by a sharp fall in imports, which dropped from 68.5 tons to 20.6 tons. Domestic production, however, saw a modest increase from 208.2 tons to 214.7 tons, supported by biosecurity rules implemented in 2018 to limit pests and invasive plants, thereby protecting crop yields. In 2023, the market size decreased to 244.9 tons, influenced by a government ban on the import of cannabis seeds, which affected overall seed imports. The digital publication of industrial property rights from September 2023 further streamlined local business operations.

In 2024, imports rose to 46.5 tons. Public tenders were launched for the construction of an agricultural hangar in Tahaa and an agro-processing workshop in Rurutu, indicating continued investment in sector infrastructure. A significant drop in the value of pearl exports in late 2024 highlighted broader regional economic challenges that could indirectly affect agricultural markets.
