This surge was driven by the March 2022 introduction of mandatory meat origin traceability, which boosted consumer confidence, and by decree-led investments in national storage infrastructure that improved supply chain efficiency.

Growth continued moderately in 2023, with the market reaching 1 533 metric tons, up 1.9%. This was underpinned by livestock development initiatives such as the World Bank-funded PRAPS-2 project, which aimed to enhance the resilience of pastoralists and agropastoralists.
