From 2018 to 2020, the non-coniferous roundwood market in Kazakhstan expanded from 296 thousand m³ to 432 thousand m³. This growth was fueled by rising imports from Russia, where shipments of unprocessed timber to Kazakhstan increased by 30% in both 2018 and 2019, supported by a record timber harvest in Russia during 2018.

Market growth slowed to 440 thousand m³ in 2021 as imports rose by only one-third, partly due to anticipation of Russia's export ban on roundwood effective from January 2022. The implementation of this ban sharply reduced supplies from Russia in 2022, causing the market volume to drop to 388 thousand m³.

In 2023, the market recovered to 431 thousand m³, driven by a 46% surge in imports from Russia as export flows adapted. Domestically, Kazakhstan's ban on the export of timber materials, extended until 2030, helped retain supply within the country.

In 2020, the country produced 414.0 thousand cubic meters, marking a significant year-over-year increase of 22.1%. Over the period from 2017 to 2020, production grew by 95.3%, with a compound annual growth rate of 25.0%.
