The newsprint market in the Americas experienced a steep contraction from 2018 to 2023, with domestic consumption dropping from 2 031 thousand tons to 787 thousand tons. The decline accelerated between 2019 and 2020, when the market size nearly halved from 1 724 thousand tons to 868 thousand tons.

This reduction was accompanied by a parallel fall in production, which decreased from 4 434 thousand tons to 2 300 thousand tons over the period. Exports also declined steadily, from 2 732 thousand tons to 1 781 thousand tons, while import volumes fluctuated at levels generally below those seen in 2018.
