Earlier Report Observations

The fresh or chilled mushrooms and truffles market in the CIS more than doubled in volume from 59 thousand tons in 2018 to 117 thousand tons in 2020. This initial surge was driven by the sustained food embargo on imports from several Western countries, which created a supply deficit and accelerated import substitution within the domestic industry. The period also saw the entry of new players, such as the launch of the 'Gribnaya Raduga' project, which significantly added to monthly production capacity.

Market growth continued steadily, reaching 175 thousand tons by 2023. This expansion was underpinned by a series of large-scale investment projects, including new mushroom farms in regions like Krasnodar and Voronezh, which vastly increased output. Supportive regulatory changes, notably the reclassification of mushrooms as agricultural produce, simplified taxation for producers and further incentivized capacity growth. Continuous improvements in cultivation techniques and yields also contributed to the rising production volumes throughout this period.
