CIS's alliaceous vegetables production declined for the second consecutive year in 2020, with output valued at 1,609 M $ US, down 2.5% from 2019. Over the 2017-2020 period, production increased by 2.9%, translating to a compound annual growth rate of 0.9%. The peak value was reached in 2018 at 1,727 M $ US, reflecting a notable increase of 10.4%. However, 2019 experienced the largest decline of 4.4%.

The market exhibited an unstable trend throughout the timeframe. Volumes dropped to their minimum in 2017 and then climbed to a maximum in 2019, representing a 2.7-fold shift. In 2020, CIS exported 80.2 M $ US of alliaceous vegetables, corresponding to a contraction of 38.5% from 2019. The peak value was recorded in 2019 at 130.2 M $ US, with the largest increase of 144.0%.

Over the 2017-2020 period, imports decreased by 21.7%, with a compound annual growth rate of 7.8%. The lowest volume was recorded in 2018 at 211.8 K t, which saw the largest decline of 53.8%. In contrast, 2019 experienced the largest increase of 46.6%.

From 2017 to 2020, China was the largest supplier of alliaceous vegetables to CIS, accounting for 22.1% of imports in kind, followed by Egypt at 15.5% and Turkey at 5.5%. Together, these three countries formed the largest group of suppliers, but their combined contribution was limited to 43.1% of total imports in kind, reflecting a diversified country structure.

Between 2017 and 2020, imports decreased by 12%, equating to an annualized rate of 4.2%. The minimum value was recorded in 2018 at 167.3 M $ US, marking the largest decline of 37.1%. Conversely, 2019 saw the largest increase of 26.2%.

Over the 2017-2020 period, China stood out as the main market for imports in value terms, accounting for 41.7% of imports, followed by Egypt at 15.7% and the Netherlands at 7.9%. Together, these three countries represented 65.3% of total flows.
