Earlier Report Observations

The market for fresh globe artichokes in the CIS countries remained relatively stable, with annual volumes hovering around 4 600 t from 2018 to 2023. A modest increase in 2019 was linked to growing consumer interest in organic products, stimulating demand. However, in 2020, the COVID-19 pandemic disrupted supply chains, leading to a temporary contraction in market volume. Recovery in 2021 was supported by increased agricultural investments and the entry of new players, which expanded domestic production capacity.

In subsequent years, the market was shaped by both global challenges and local initiatives. International logistics disruptions and rising energy costs in 2022 put pressure on production expenses, while the adoption of policies supporting organic farming in several CIS nations provided a positive counterbalance. By 2023, the spread of vertical farming technologies enabled more consistent, year-round cultivation, though the overall market size saw only minor fluctuations.

Throughout the period, gradual regulatory improvements took place, including the harmonization of organic certification standards and stricter labeling requirements. These changes enhanced transparency for consumers and fostered the development of the eco-friendly artichoke segment. Simultaneously, the growing role of state-owned companies in supporting the agricultural sector and the introduction of new agritech solutions laid the groundwork for industry modernization.
