After two consecutive years of decline, Azerbaijan's production of milled and broken rice rebounded in 2021. Output reached 11,424 tonnes, marking a 15.5% increase from the previous year. Looking at the broader 2018-2021 period, production actually fell by 18%, with a compound annual growth rate of -6.4%. The lowest production level was recorded in 2020 at 9,891 tonnes, while the steepest year-on-year decline occurred in 2019 when output dropped by 23.7%.

Following two years of growth, Azerbaijan's imports of milled and broken rice declined in 2021. The country imported 45,929 tonnes, representing a significant 14.4% decrease from 2020. Over the 2018-2021 period, imports still increased by 28.3%, with a compound annual growth rate of 8.6%. The peak import volume was recorded in 2020 at 53,641 tonnes, while the strongest year-on-year growth occurred that same year with a 23.9% increase.
