Between 2018 and 2023, the malt market volume in Georgia showed considerable fluctuations. It increased from 29 thousand tons in 2018 to 38 thousand tons in 2020, then dropped sharply to 26 thousand tons in 2021. A partial recovery to 33 thousand tons followed in 2022, but the market declined again to 29 thousand tons in 2023.

The market growth between 2018 and 2020 amounted to approximately 31%, with the peak reached in 2020. However, in 2021, the volume contracted by nearly 31%, erasing the previous gains. Although 2022 saw a rebound of about 25%, the subsequent 13% decline in 2023 left the market volume below the 2020 level.

In 2020, Georgia produced 18 055 tons of malt, marking a 29.1% increase compared to the previous year. From 2017 to 2020, production grew by 38.7%, which translates to an annualized growth rate of 11.5%. The most significant decline occurred in 2019, with a drop of 5.9%.

Malt deliveries to Georgia increased for the second consecutive year. In 2020, Georgia imported a total of 15 583 tons of malt, reflecting a modest 8.4% rise from the previous year. Between 2017 and 2020, imports grew by 7.9%, equating to an annualized rate of 2.6%. The lowest import volume was recorded in 2018 at 14 383 tons, which also saw the largest decline of 23.2%. In contrast, the largest increase occurred in 2019, with a jump of 29.6%.
