Earlier Report Observations

In 2018, Central Cervecera de Colombia entered the malt market with the launch of Natu Malta, aiming to diversify a previously concentrated segment. This introduction of a new player increased competition and supply, setting the stage for future market expansion, even as the total market volume experienced a modest decline to 165.3 thousand tons in 2019.

From 2020 onward, the Colombian malt market entered a phase of sustained growth, with volume climbing from 174.3 thousand tons in 2020 to 201.8 thousand tons in 2022. This upward trend continued into 2023, when the market reached 224.7 thousand tons.

The market's expansion in 2023 coincided with heightened competition and product innovation, notably Bavaria's expansion of its malt portfolio with Pony Malta Vital. Further dynamism was added in 2024 with Bavaria's launch of Pony Malta Protein-Up, an innovative product incorporating plant-based protein to align with growing consumer preferences for health and nutrition.
