Earlier Report Observations

From 2018 to 2023, production of maize bran, sharps and residues in Kyrgyzstan fluctuated, peaking at 50,149 t in 2023 after a decline in prior years. The initial increase to 47,701 t in 2019 occurred amid stable regional conditions, but the COVID-19 pandemic in 2020 disrupted supply chains and agricultural activities, contributing to a subsequent drop in output.

A key market development was the signing of a phytosanitary protocol between Kyrgyzstan and China in 2022, allowing maize exports. This created potential for increased maize processing and, consequently, higher production of its by-products. However, maize residue output temporarily fell to 44,493 t that same year, likely due to a transitional phase and the ongoing impact of geopolitical tensions and sanctions affecting Central Asia.

Production recovered in 2023, surpassing the 2019 level to reach 50,149 t. This growth aligned with a regional trend of expanding maize cultivation for feed and investments in the agricultural sector, which boosted demand for feed ingredients including maize bran and residues.
