The market for maize bran, sharps and residues in Melanesia experienced notable fluctuations in volume between 2018 and 2023, moving within a range of approximately 2,800 to 3,100 t. After starting at 3,084 t in 2018, the market contracted to 2,905 t in 2019 before rebounding to 3,087 t in 2020.

A subsequent decline brought the market to 2,842 t in 2021, followed by a recovery over the next two years, reaching 2,994 t in 2022 and 3,022 t in 2023. Domestic production, which varied from 2,780 t to 3,048 t, was the dominant component of supply throughout the period.

Imports provided additional volume, peaking at 267 t in 2020, but then fell sharply to 50 t in 2021 and ceased entirely by 2023, making the market fully reliant on local production by the end of the observed timeframe.
