From 2018 to 2023, the market volume for maize bran, sharps and residues in Europe experienced notable fluctuations. After starting at 2 364 thousand tonnes in 2018, it declined to 2 150 thousand tonnes in 2019 and remained nearly stable at 2 128 thousand tonnes in 2020. A recovery followed in 2021, with volume reaching 2 306 thousand tonnes, and further growth to 2 395 thousand tonnes in 2022. However, 2023 saw a sharp contraction to 2 022 thousand tonnes.

In value terms, the market showed a different pattern. Despite the volume decline in 2019, the market value held steady at $496.9 million, down only slightly from $501.8 million in 2018. By 2020, value increased to $513.3 million, then surged to $691.0 million in 2021 and $783.0 million in 2022, reflecting higher unit prices. The 2023 volume drop coincided with a value decrease to $641.1 million, though still above pre-2021 levels.
